Welcome to Riverview First
United Methodist Church
We are delighted that you have found the website for Riverview First United Methodist Church in Riverview, Florida--RUMC for short. We are a congregation with deep roots in Florida history and the Methodist movement. Our church began in 1846 not far from where it is located today.
Our mission statement reads “Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of Riverview and beyond.” That means that we are focused on encouraging one another to serve Jesus Christ in personal and unique ways. At RUMC, we have groups and ministries for all ages, and we believe that worship is the central and most important act of a Christian.
Our Sunday worship begins with faith groups for all ages, scheduled for the 9:00 AM hour. The congregation meets in our Fellowship Hall from 10:00-10:25 AM for refreshments and fellowship. Our worship celebration begins at 10:30 AM. We also have a dedicated Hispanic congregation that gathers in the sanctuary at noon on Sunday.
Our services vary throughout the month. The first and third Sundays of each month are traditional with music provided by our Chancel Choir. The first Sunday of the month is also the time when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. On the second and fourth Sundays of the month, our Praise Band provides contemporary music. On fifth Sundays—which usually happens four times a year—youth-led worship includes the Youth Praise Team and a “noisy offering” is taken on behalf of the Florida UM Children’s Home. Children’s Church is offered as a complement to these services.
We invite you and your family to “Wonderful Wednesday” fellowship potluck suppers, held on most Wednesdays throughout the year. Bring your favorite dish to share and join in. We have a variety of Bible studies and youth activities following the meal. The first Wednesday of the Month is Spaghetti Night, when the Riverview community is invited to enjoy free Spaghetti with the congregation.
We support Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, United Methodist Women and Men, and a variety of small groups and Bible studies that convene throughout the week. We are currently offering English as a Second Language and GED classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We also offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University two times a year.
RUMC offers RESTORE—a food pantry and thrift store outreach ministry to our community. RESTORE operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. RESTORE’s co-directors are Dan Yost and Maritza Rivera, and you can contact them at (813)741-2222. RESTORE is an equal opportunity provider that is open to the public.
It takes all God’s people to do God’s work! Won’t you join us?
