Welcome to Riverview First
United Methodist Church

We are delighted that you have found the website for Riverview First United Methodist Church in Riverview, Florida--RUMC for short. We are a congregation with deep roots in Florida history and the Methodist movement. Our church began in 1846 not far from where it is located today.

Our mission statement reads “Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of Riverview and beyond.” That means that we are focused on encouraging one another to serve Jesus Christ in personal and unique ways. At RUMC, we have groups and ministries for all ages, and we believe that worship is the central and most important act of a Christian.

Our Sunday worship begins with faith groups for all ages, scheduled for the 9:00 AM hour. The congregation meets in our Fellowship Hall from 10:00-10:25 AM for refreshments and fellowship. Our worship celebration begins at 10:30 AM. We also have a dedicated Hispanic congregation that gathers in the sanctuary at noon on Sunday.

Our services vary throughout the month. The first and third Sundays of each month are traditional with music provided by our Chancel Choir. The first Sunday of the month is also the time when we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. On the second and fourth Sundays of the month, our Praise Band provides contemporary music. On fifth Sundays—which usually happens four times a year—youth-led worship includes the Youth Praise Team and a “noisy offering” is taken on behalf of the Florida UM Children’s Home. Children’s Church is offered as a complement to these services.

We invite you and your family to “Wonderful Wednesday” fellowship potluck suppers, held on most Wednesdays throughout the year. Bring your favorite dish to share and join in. We have a variety of Bible studies and youth activities following the meal. The first Wednesday of the Month is Spaghetti Night, when the Riverview community is invited to enjoy free Spaghetti with the congregation.

We support Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, United Methodist Women and Men, and a variety of small groups and Bible studies that convene throughout the week. We are currently offering English as a Second Language and GED classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We also offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University two times a year.

RUMC offers RESTORE—a food pantry and thrift store outreach ministry to our community. RESTORE operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. RESTORE is an equal opportunity provider that is open to the public.

It takes all God’s people to do God’s work! Won’t you join us?
You Are Welcome at RUMC!

We invite you to participate with us in our weekly worship celebration. You have the opportunity to join a group of committed Christians who desire to have a deeper and growing relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that nothing will bring you more joy, peace, hope, challenge and meaning than the journey of faithful living that God intends for us.

It’s all right that you don’t have it all figured out yet—we are still working on it as well. We are all at different places along this awesome journey. We are here to help and encourage one another as we travel together. Friend, there is place here for you at Riverview First United Methodist Church (RUMC). It is a place of “Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors”.

In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Louis Telcy

How to Encounter Jesus Christ and
Experience Him Today:

  • Know that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.  (John 3:16-17)
  • Admit that you are a sinner.  (Romans 3:23)
  • Believe that Jesus died for your sins.  (Romans 5:12)
  • Confess your sins and receive forgiveness.  (1 John 1:9)
  • Decide to turn from your sin and turn to God.  (Acts 3:19)
  • Experience salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, Lord and Friend.  (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • Follow Jesus daily and live for Him.  (Luke 9:23)

If you want to make this Wonderful and Life-Changing choice right now, then pray a prayer similar to the following;

“Dear God, I know that I’m a sinner.  I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins.  I’m sorry for my sins, and I accept your offer of forgiveness.  I ask that you come into my heart, Jesus, as personal Savior, Lord and Friend.  Thank you for what you have done for me, and help me to follow you faithfully for the rest of my life.  Amen”

If you have just prayed this prayer—Congratulations!  You are now a member of the family of God.  Please share what you have done with a Christian friend or Pastor as soon as possible, and become involved with a Bible believing church family, where you can grow in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ!

Please feel free to call upon us at Riverview First United Methodist Church at (813) 677-5995 if we can help you in any way.

God’s Blessings and Peace
